Is the role fully remote?

Yes, we are a remote first, hybrid optional organization and are actively hiring on a fully remote basis. If you live in Chicago and prefer working in an office, we do have an office available. As long as your at-home setup works for you, then it works for us.

Where is the office located?

Our Chicago office is located at 200 W. Monroe St., 22nd Floor, Chicago, IL 60606.

How many employees work at Civis Analytics?

Civis currently has about 60 employees and counting.

Will Civis Analytics provide work equipment?

Civis does provide a laptop and charger that we ship to you. We also add $150.00 to your first check for you to stock up on work related supplies of your preference.

Though we do not provide a work phone, we do give each employee $25/check as a stipend for your personal phone bill.

What do you use internally to communicate?

Our company utilizes Google Suite and Slack – Gmail, Google Meet, and Slack are our main forms of communication.

What medical insurance provider does Civis Analytics use?

Civis offers a la carte package options for medical, dental, and vision. We have a PPO plan, along with a HDP (that includes a Civis Employer contribution to an HSA account).

Civis covers at least 80% of the cost of premiums for medical, dental, and vision, and 100% of the premiums for both long and short term disability and $50,000 of life insurance.

Is parental leave available?

We know that family comes first. Civis offers paid parental leave to all full-time employees within the first 12 months of either giving birth or their partner giving birth at 100% of their regular salary. The parent giving birth is eligible for twelve weeks of continuous paid leave from the time of the birth. Non birth parents can take six weeks of continuous paid leave from the time of the birth.

What other benefits are there?

Compensation is more than just your base salary number. At Civis we use the phrase, Total Rewards. Total Rewards includes your base salary, potential bonus, 401K match and other benefits that help your bottom line. Employee benefits equal, on average, 7% of Civis employees’ salary.

Unlimited vacation time? How does that work?

Civis has an open vacation policy for employees to take as many vacation days as they would like, as long as they still complete their work. Civis hires exceptional, professional adults to perform a wide variety of important functions that contribute to the success of our company. It is Civis’s intent to provide its exceptional employees the freedom they require to balance the responsibilities of both their work and home lives, thereby maximizing their value to Civis.

Are you flexible on work hours?

Civis understands how important those after-school pick ups can be, or the need to attend a mid-day doctor’s appointment, and we allow employees to make arrangements with their work schedule to accommodate. We are very flexible as long as you’re getting your work done and hitting your goals.

How is compensation calculated?

As a progressive workplace, pay equity is an important piece of setting a clear value of equal pay for equal work, while also working to avoid the temptation of bias. Our HR teams have done thorough research and adjustments to make sure we are doing our best in not only being competitive with the market, but in making sure we are being equitable with the people who are tenured here at Civis and compensated accordingly.

How have you maintained culture since going remote?

Our teams stay close-knit through their stand-ups and weekly meetings. As a company, Civis hosts monthly All Staff meetings to keep employees in the know of what’s happening in other departments.

We also encourage participating in Donut Pals! A feature in Slack that randomly pairs you with another employee so you can spend some quality time with coworkers you may not get to see in regular meetings.

What is management at Civis like?

Each person has their own unique style. Each one of our Leaders are approachable, supportive, and encouraging of autonomy. We aren’t interested in micromanagement.

How often do you meet with your manager/team? How team-focused is the role?

Each team meets at least once a week, if not more. Some team gatherings are just chances to virtually see and chat before you dive into your workday. You’ll also have 1:1’s with your manager on a weekly basis.

What does future compensation look like?

Civis has four opportunities each year for promotions (once per quarter). Haven’t quite met the promotion criteria yet? No worries, because we also do annual compensation refreshes to ensure we are doing our best in being competitive within the market. This is on top of the annual performance based bonuses awarded to the top 20% of performers.

With a central location in Chicago’s Loop, our newly renovated office can be seen as an expression of who we are. Drawing from our scientific roots, our glass conference rooms are named after famous scientists and a vibrant hand drawn mural illustrating the “History of Data,” greets visitors to the kitchen. Selected as the headquarters for many of the commercial brands we work with, Chicago is an ideal location for supporting our clients. As one of the popular hubs for tech startups, Chicago is the perfect backdrop for Civis’s growing team.
